Why Your Vote Really Counts
Hi neighbors:
Energy Costs in Kirkwood remain high. For electricity, we pay @ 4 times what Bay area homeowners pay, and @40% profit to Mountain Utilities (unregulated rates) on propane distribution. I, as one homeowner, have endured these high prices for the last 15 years, and believe that there are some great opportunites for us to create a SMART energy future, with lower costs, reliability and lower negative impact to the environment.
If you want to end the high cost of energy, you have a chance to vote for the Directors you believe will best achieve this result.
As you know, we have an important election coming up for 3 of 5 KMPUD Board Director seats.
The reasons that it is really, really important to register to vote are these:
- As of this writing, there are only 90 registered voters.
- The East Meadows is especially underrepresented, being the newer development. East Meadows has only 15 registered voters.
- With the decisions about who manages the energy and what sources that energy comes from in the balance, it is really important that the community make its voice heard on how it wants those choices made. The best way to do that is through the democratic process.
The election is November 3rd. All ballots are vote-by-mail-and will be mailed to you. Ballots will begin to be sent out in the beginning of October. The deadline for registration is October 18th.
